Which wich – Grand Junction Colorado

August 21, 2013

I met a friend that I hadn't seen in years here for lunch. It was a little after 11 so it wasn’t really busy.  This is a build your own sandwich place. When you first come in you decide which main type of sandwich you want. Turkey, beef, ham, and seafood were some of the many options. You then take a bag of the type of sandwich you want then grab a red sharpie and checkmark all the things you want on your sandwich. Once you're done with this you take the bag to the counter and pick your chips if you want them and pay for your meal. Then you could take a cup to fill up while you wait for your sandwich.

I got a ham and turkey sandwich with pepper jack, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onion, spinach and spicy mayo. This was a good sandwich and better than silver mine or subway type places for sure.

Kannah Creek Brewing Company– Grand Junction Colorado

August 20, 2013

I read online that they had orange cream soda which is what I was excited about trying. However when we were ordering drinks they said they only had a grape soda and root beer, so I just got a pepsi ($2.25) as did my mom and dad decided to try the root beer ($2.25). This night I wasn't exactly starving because of my breakfast at Dream Café earlier in the day. So I thought I would get something fairly small with a side salad. When our waitress returned with our drinks I hadn’t made my decision yet so she gave us some more time. When she did come back I decided to get a pepperoni pizza ($6.99) and a side salad ($3.49) with ranch dressing.   Dad got the Reuben sandwich ($10.49 w/ side) and mom got the Roasted turkey cranberry sandwich ($9.49 w/ a side) and they both got side salad with it.

The salads were decent with all the normal things you expect tomato and cucumber all that stuff.

The pizza was a decent pizza, but not the greatest but good enough for me on this day. This wasn't all that big of a pizza, but I think I was less hungry than I thought and could only eat half of it.

Dad thought his Reuben sandwich kind of had too much meat in it, but thought it was an okay sandwich and mom said hers was good but that's what she says about almost everything.

Dream Café – Grand Junction Colorado

August 20, 2013

We were seated at a large table that had half booths seating and half chairs. I had been reading about some of their pancakes especially the pineapple upside down, so I kind of knew what I wanted already.

The first thing I did was I read the pancake section of the menu and this is what I Found

Sweet Dreams

Blueberry muffin pancakesFresh berries in our

buttermilk pancakes with chopped pecans, cinnamon

butter& glazed donut icing. 7.5

Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes–Fresh

chunks of carmelized pineapple with homemade vanilla

creme anglaise, carmel & cinnamon butter. 7.5

Buttermilk Pancakes–Sure we have them. Light,

tender& tasty 6.5

Banana Split Pancakes Grilled bananas, carmel

sauce, chopped nuts & whipped cream. 8

Mix and Match–Choose any 3 pancakes & have

some fun-it’s only breakfast. 8.5

Gluten free pancakes available on request. Add 1

After this how could I not get the Mix and Match of the Blueberry muffin, the pineapple upside down and the banana split pancakes.  Dad had the same as me but also added a side of bacon ($2.50).

Mom had just the blueberry muffin pancakes which came with two and also added a side of bacon.

The bacon was excellent, kind of thick and very delicious.

The pancakes were amazing and very large and very filling in fact none of us were able to finish all of our breakfast. I started out eating some of each one.  I think the blueberry muffin were my favorite I think because of the cinnamon butter melted into the blueberries and the pancake.   Then the pineapple I really liked the carmel sauce in that one.  Then the banana split pancakes reminded me of banana bread. All three of these were excellent by themselves, but the best part I think was in the middle of the plate where the pancakes were overlapping and you could have the best of all of them in one bite.

Enzo’s Italian restaurant – Grand Junction Colorado

August 19, 2013

This was a small place near our hotel.   When we arrived they said it would be a few minutes, so we sat and read the menu and in a few minutes they had a table ready for us. Right away they sat down a pitcher ish thing of water and poured the water cups and our drink orders were taken, but water was fine for my mom and I and dad got a fat tire. On their website there were two prices on dishes I was thinking half portions were lower price. That's what I was going to do, but their menu when we got there had only one price for the whole portion. When our waitress came back to take our orders I asked and she said they don't have small portions at dinner. So I just got the whole portion of the fettuccine Alfredo ($15.99).  Mom and dad both got the baked lasagna ($17.99) these came with a salad or soup we all took the salad and also came with garlic rolls. We sat and talked for a while about what to do in Grand Junction.

Then our salads arrived, this was a very good salad except for the Gorgonzola on top unless you like that kind of thing. I could handle the little pieces but not the large chunks. But I did really like the pepperoncini’s in the salad.

In a few minutes after our salads our meals came out the Alfredo was good but I don't think it was all that great, but it was a solid fettuccine Alfredo.

I sampled the lasagna and think it was the best lasagna I’ve ever had.

The rolls I didn't think were all that good but they were all right.

I thought this place was kind of pricey but it seems to me that a lot of the Italian food is. I really liked this small local Italian place; I just wish I would have been hungrier.  If I have the chance to return I would definitely get the lasagna since it was so good.

Main Street Restaurant - Idaho Springs, CO

August 19, 2013
This is located not on main street but on Miner St which a major road through Idaho Springs filled with all the old buildings.  We arrived around noon and the place was mostly full except for a couple of tables.  We took one up front that was a 2 person table and the three of us squeezed around it.  We were quickly brought our menus.  We had a little time to look over the menu's but barely enough time before our waiter came back.  I ordered the Southwest Turkey sandwich I think that was the name of it. This had Turkey, Pepper Jack, green chilies all grilled on jalapeno cheese bread. Mom got the mushroom Swiss burger and dad got the jalapeno cheese burger.  All three of us ordered a Pepsi when we ordered our meal and not before.  Our waiter was not very talkative which is fine by me, but maybe a bit too quiet. I could see how people would think he wasn't very friendly.  We sat and waited for a bit, but in not long and our food arrived.

I thought this sandwich was quite good I really liked the bread with the jalapeno and cheese in it. The chilies were not the best green chilies and probably out of the can but they were okay for this sandwich.  This whole sandwich a little bit of a kick, I’m not sure whether this was from the bread, the pepper Jack or the green chilies or a combination of them. The fries were good after adding salt. On the side of the plate were some pickled green beans which I didn't care for.

Mom and dad both liked their burgers.  After we were done we paid and we were on our way to Grand Junction for more good food.

Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q – Denver CO

July 12, 2013

After a doctor’s appointment in Denver, I was hungry for barbeque.  We arrived a little after 5 on a Friday night.  The building was fairly empty when we arrived but it filled up by the time we were leaving as was the parking lot between the Harkins Theater and Bass pro shop.  We were seated right away and they brought us a basket of cheese muffins and took our drink orders which were all cokes.  We also ordered some onion rings as well.

These muffins were delicious and probably the best bread type item served before a meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant.  The onion rings were served with ketchup and the waitress asked if we wanted ranch with them and I said yes.  She took quite a while to bring this back and the rings were half gone by the time she returned.

The onion rings were not the best, I couldn’t bite through the onion.  The onion was tough and it would just pull out of the breading.  The ranch was really thin and dripped all over the place between the plate and my mouth.  The onion rings were disappointing but we still had dinner to go.  I ordered the pulled pork plate with fried green tomatoes and collard greens.  Mom had the same plate but with different sides.  Dad had the turkey plate with mac and cheese and French fries.  When the food arrived the plates were large and looked good.

The pork was good pulled pork, not the best but better than most.  It wasn’t pulled all that well though.  A lot of it was still connected.  The fried green tomatoes I wanted to try since I’ve never had them before, these were ok, but they didn’t seem to taste like much, but the breading I did not care for.  The collard greens were quite tasty there was something with a little spice to it along with ham and the greens themselves were very good.  I wish I would have asked for some more muffins to dip in the liquid, but by that time I was too full for that.

Dad’s turkey was good, I sampled his mac and cheese and it was very good.  Mom was not so sure about the food.  This place may not have had the best bbq, but it was good and the cheese muffins were excellent and enough to get me back.
