After two long days of driving we finally made it to Phoenix
and were hungry. I had my food list and during the day I was kind of doing a
last-minute yelp search on my phone. So before we got to Phoenix we kind of decided
on barbecue. The previous trip I kept seeing Bobby Q right off I 17 so we
basically knew where it was already. When we arrived it wasn't quite dark
outside yet but it was close. The place was pretty much full except for a few
tables. So we were sat right away. Soon after our waitress was there to take
our drink orders dad had a Coke, mom and I both had an iced tea. Not long after our orders were taken I decided
to go with the pulled pork with sides of mac & cheese and barbecue beans.
Dad had the sausage with the same two sides. Mom had the pulled pork and had pecan
coleslaw and roasted corn. The waitress said that she would be right back with
cornbread.
Soon after she was back with the basket of cornbread. There were
three puck shaped cornbreads with whipped butter. This has got to be the best
cornbread I've ever had anywhere. I
usually don't like cornbread because it's usually dry but this wasn't it was
moist and very good flavor and the butter on top was just a bonus. This was a perfect start to our meal and after finishing it
we just had a few minutes before the barbecue arrived. When this did happen the
guy asked if we wanted any more barbecue sauce so we said sure and he asked if
we wanted spicy or regular we took a little of each. So we started in our meal
and he came back quickly with the sauces which were both in little dishes with
spoons. He said they lost some of their bottles at a catering event. So I made
sure to try both sauces and I liked the spicy one better. It was definitely
spicier than the regular but I also thought it had just a better flavor
overall.
I really enjoyed my pulled pork, it was very good. My mac & cheese
was very cheesy, gooey and yummy. The beans tasted a little different than
other places and I'm not sure exactly what it was, but it may just been the barbecue
sauce. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals and I was very happy that I
picked a good place for our first night in Phoenix. This was a very good
barbecue place maybe not up there with places in Kansas City, but it was very
good barbecue nonetheless. After we were done we got our check and paid.
After
this are waitress thanked us for coming in and gave us a small bag. Inside the
bag were three mini cinnamon and sugar doughnuts one for each of us as a thank
you. Once we got back to the hotel I ate mine and was kind of sad that I only
got one, but it was a very nice thing and I kind of wish more places would do
something like that.
