Bad Daddy's Burger Bar -- Northglenn Colorado

May 5, 2016

We arrived probably around 5 o’clock and were seated immediately right away we ordered our drinks and basket of fried pickles. Pretty soon after this we ordered our burgers and the fried pickles were delivered. I ordered a build your own burger which already comes with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions I added white cheddar cheese, jalapeno bacon and garlic Mayo. Dad also ordered a build your own burger and mom got the All American Burger.  Dad and I both picked fries as our side and mom picked the potato chips.

The fried pickles were long slices and were a bit skinny and a little bit tough to bite. But other than that they were very tasty and excellent with the ranch dressing. Once we finished these up we waited just a bit longer and our burgers arrived.

Mine was a very good burger and nearly top-of-the-line burger but just a bit off of that. The jalapeno bacon on this was excellent and it was actually was quite hot and spicy. The fries that came with this were all right kind of skinny and some were really small. These came with some sort of special sauce type stuff and it was excellent and had a bit of a kick to it to. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their burgers quite a bit too and I‘m pretty sure we will return here or maybe one of their other locations.

El Guero Canelo Mexican Restaurant– Phoenix Arizona

March 8 and March 11, 2016

This place was featured on Man versus Food, not for the challenge part but one of the other places in Tucson.  Since then they recently opened one in Phoenix and I was very excited about trying it out. This place looked kind of like an old tire place. When you walk from the parking lot to the door you could see the tortillas being made.  It wasn’t very busy when we got here so we went right up to the counter.   I wanted to try one of their famous Sonoran dogs, but also something else. So I got a Sonoran dog and one Carne Asada taco and a Mexican Coke we then found a table and got some stuff from the salsa/condiment bar; which had a lot of good stuff. We waited for our number to be called, so we could get our food but it was brought out to us.

After one bite I was in heaven. This was the greatest hot dog I’ve ever had. It was a bacon wrapped hot dog topped with grilled onions, beans jalapeno sauce, tomato, mayo and mustard on a substantial Bolillo roll. This hotdog was so good we even had to plan another trip before we left town. The taco was just okay but the tortilla was homemade and really good.

On our next visit we didn’t mess around we just each got two Sonoran dogs and a Mexican Coke. The one thing I couldn’t believe was there were not many people in this place, but the McDonald’s across the parking lot was packed and the drive-through had a long line when this place had such a great hot dog that was pretty cheap as well. If you’re ever in Tucson or Phoenix I would definitely recommend El Guero Canelo for one of the best hot dogs you can find.

Baby Kay’s – Mesa Arizona

March 7, 2016

After a Rockies spring-training game we stopped in for some Cajun food. It’s been on my list to try for years even back to before they were even in this location. We were quickly told to sit wherever we wanted and menus were brought out quickly. Then I checked out the menu. I wanted to try multiple things so I thought one of the combos would be a good thing to try. So eventually we were ready to order I got the baby Kay’s combo ($10.50) which had red beans and rice and gumbo with chicken and sausage along with garlic bread and a side dish. I chose a salad. Mom ordered the same thing but with green olive coleslaw as her side dish. Dad was intrigued by the special which was a Cajun burger and ordered that with French fries.

My salad was just a basic salad but was good.

I liked my combo quite a bit and liked having two items. The gumbo I think I liked better but both were very good. Both of these had quite a bit of heat to them; hot enough to make my nose run, but not enough to make me cry. The garlic bread here was very good as well.

Dad’s burger had Andouille mixed inside and topped with chipotle caramelized onions and cheese, he really liked this and said it was a bit spicy and really good. Although it was not the best burger of the trip. (That’s coming soon) He also liked the sauce that came on the side; it was a bit spicy maybe a Remoulade sauce?  After so many years of wanting to try this place out I was very happy that we stopped here and were able to find some real good Cajun food.

Crackers and Company – Mesa Arizona

March 7, 2016

We visited Crackers and Company years ago and really enjoyed it, but just haven’t made it back until this day on our way to a spring training game.  I also wanted to try eggs benedict at a good breakfast place because I’ve had it at home with the hollandaise powder packet which I think is good, and at places like Perkins that wasn’t so good.  So I wanted to see how good it is at a good place.  When we got there it wasn’t packed but not empty either.  I ordered the eggs benedict, mom just ordered some pancakes and dad got a basic breakfast with eggs, sausage and pancakes.

My eggs benedict was very good although I don’t think I’m too big on poached eggs.  But I really did like everything else especially the hollandaise sauce.  The potatoes that came with this were excellent and might be the best breakfast potatoes I’ve had.

Dad liked his breakfast especially his pancakes and mom also had a good breakfast.  Crackers and company was excellent years ago and still is an excellent place for breakfast or lunch.
