Bacon part 1

Bacon is something that I've always enjoyed and just about every kind. I was always excited when I was younger and mom would cook bacon and I also always liked going out for breakfast and getting bacon or getting bacon cheeseburgers or BLT’s, so basically I like bacon of any kind. In the last few years though I figured out that not all bacon is created equal. Most bacon is good or very good, but some is really excellent and here is some of the best I’ve found

Heritage Breed Bacon Flight at the Berkshire in Denver, Colorado

This had 4 different kinds of bacon and extras on the side; lettuce, tomato, toasted bread and so forth. This was the first time I’ve seen bacon as a flight and all 4 were excellent and still the best bacon I’ve ever had.

Chipotle bacon cheeseburger at SanTan Brewing Company in Chandler, Arizona

This chipotle bacon came on a pretty large cheeseburger.  It was thick bacon and had a little smoky and a little spicy to it because of the chipotle and was so delicious.

Thick-cut bacon at Matt's big breakfast in Phoenix, Arizona

When we were getting ready to order our waitress recommended the bacon but I already had planned on getting it. This was peppered bacon and thick cut and it had great bacon flavor and is probably the best I've had at a breakfast place.

And here are some other places that may not have the greatest bacon by itself but it was excellent in what it was in

Bacon Blue Pancakes at Soul Café in Scottsdale, Arizona

These pancakes were huge with pieces of bacon and blueberries in it and they tasted amazing, but I could only eat about half of them because they were so huge but I enjoyed it the whole time.

Breakfast burritos and bacon at Doug's day diner in Fort Collins, Colorado

They have huge breakfast burritos with your choice of meat, which I always choose bacon, which has huge pieces of bacon inside along with potatoes and eggs and then your choice of red or green chili or both.  This is a great thing to have bacon in and the bacon just by itself is really good too, but I forgot to take a picture when I just got the bacon with my breakfast plate.

60/40 Burger at Big Al's Burgers and Dogs in Fort Collins, Colorado

Their 60/40 burger is 60% beef and 40% bacon in a burger patty to make a great burger with cheese and toppings on top.

Sonoran dog at El Guero Canelo in Phoenix, Arizona

A Sonoran dog that was a bacon wrapped hotdog with beans, grilled onions, tomatoes, jalapeno sauce, mayo and mustard.  The combination of everything on top of the bacon wrapped hot dog was excellent and went together great.

Thanks for visiting my blog and reading part 1 of my bacon series. Make sure to check back in again for part 2 of my bacon series which will be about the Nueske's bacon I recently ordered.

Steuben's - Denver Colorado

August 31, 2017

After spending part of the morning at the Denver botanical gardens with the family we met at Steuben's for lunch.  Steuben's was featured on Diners drive-ins and dives and I couldn't exactly remember what they showed on that episode, but after I looked at the menu a little bit I remembered that they showed the lobster rolls
Before we got there everyone else already ordered the hummus and falafel and it was gone when we got there. They enjoyed it very much. We took a little bit of time to look over the menu, which it took me a little bit of time to figure out what to get because there were so many sandwiches that sounded good. Eventually I ordered the Monte cristo sandwich.  I've always been intrigued by these, but never had one that I remember. Our waitress was excited when I ordered it saying it was her favorite. Everyone else ordered some sort of sandwich and I know my dad had a cheesesteak. The sandwiches just came with the sandwich and fries or the other side dishes cost extra, we all ordered fries.

When we were done with just about everything our waitress made sure to ask me how my Monte cristo was.  It was a great sandwich basically a deep-fried ham, turkey and cheese sandwich that was topped with a bit of powdered sugar and served with raspberry jam.  I didn't know if I would like the raspberry jam with it, but I really liked the sweet with the sandwich. You could easily get too much sweet if you weren't careful though. This was excellent and so were the fries.

They came in crab cans lined with paper. These were quite good especially after I added a bit of salt.

Dad really enjoyed his cheesesteak and everyone else enjoyed their sandwiches and we are all looking forward to returning.
