Crackers and Co. Mesa, AZ

Crackers and Co.
March 8, 2011
We started out in the morning thinking breakfast, but by the time we got there I felt like lunch.   We got here for a late breakfast/early lunch at that time it was fairly empty inside.  Our waiter was very good; he made sure we knew about everything on the menu like what choices you had. I had the turkey melt on sourdough. This was very good I especially liked the bacon in it, it was very good. The fries with it were crispy, but were a little different than most, but I liked them.

My mom got the half sandwich and soup, which was white chili. The waiter said this was hot and spicy and made sure that was okay. She didn't think it was all that hot though. She enjoyed both the sandwich and soup. My dad got the Ruben sandwich which he really enjoyed; he thought corned beef was excellent.
By the time we paid and were leaving the place was filling up with a lot of people waiting in the front area by the door. Our bill came out to be $37.66 with tax and tip which I thought was an good price for a very good lunch.

Los dos Molinos

March 8, 2011

Mexican food was one of the things I was looking forward to most on our trip to Phoenix, after baseball of course.  Los Dos Molinos was one of the places on my list to try out.

We got there in time for an early dinner. It wasn't very crowded at all we got there but it was starting to fill up. Many of the people eating there seem like regulars, since some of the employees were joking with them and talking to them like they knew them. They first brought out some salsa both red and green. After eating a few chips with both kinds I was crying. I thought the green had a pretty good flavor with the tomatillos, but was very hot. The red was just hot. The salsas were just too much for me to handle, and you couldn't really enjoy the taste of them.
I got the chicken chimichanga with the red sauce which I like the taste of. I thought it was kind of bland though, but I don't know if it was because the salsa was so hot before or if it was just bland. So I added some of the salsa to it which helped quite a bit. The rice with it I thought was good and I thought the beans were just average.
The bill was $55 after tax and tip.  Here you really got a lot for your money; I didn't come close to finishing all of it.

Monti's La Casa Vieja, Tempe AZ

March 7, 2011
Every Trip we take I try to find a good steak or prime rib, so I did some research before we left and found one that I thought was reasonably priced since most of the well-known steak houses were fairly pricey. So I found Montis
We got here fairly early right after the game probably about five o'clock. They said there'd be a little bit of a wait about 10 min. I went to find the bathroom and by the time I got back out they showed me to where we were seated. After not very long the waitress came, she explained about all the history and how old the building was then she explained the food. We all ordered the Monday prime rib special for $11.99. I got mine with a baked potato and salad. It also came with Roman bread which was basically a focaccia with plenty of Rosemary. Which they brought with the salads, I enjoyed the ranch dressing on the salad, it tasted homemade. The salad was fairly good as well. My dad had the salad with the Roquefort blue cheese; he thought it was very good.
When the prime ribs came out, I thought they were good, but not the best I've ever had. It was a little tough but not too bad, I did really like the blackened edge of the meat it was very good and I also like the Au Jus to dip the meat in. The baked potato was okay just a regular baked potato.
I really liked this place; it was old and had a lot of history with pictures and various other things on the walls. The service was also very good, the waitress explained everything well and was on top of everything. The food was pretty good, it wasn't the best prime rib but it sure was good and reasonably priced.

Salt River Fields at talking stick, Scottsdale, Arizona

Salt River Fields at talking stick
March 7, 2011
After driving for two days we finally made it to Phoenix for spring training, and the baseball game isn't the same without a hot dog. There was a stand serving multiple hotdogs, I got the Chicago dog. It was not really your normal Chicago dog everything on it with diced up which I thought was easier to eat but the mustard was kind of messy and got all over me. I didn't really like the dog too much it was an Oscar Meyer. If there was a better quality dog and a little more toppings and not the mustard all over the top, this dog would've been pretty good. It was also a little pricey at $11 for a dog and a drink, but that's what you get at a ballpark.
My dad got the Salt River dog. It was a buffalo dog with roasted green chiles and grilled onions; he thought it was very good. For the dog and a drink it was $12.

Pei Wei Albuquerque,nm

 March 5, 2011

Mandarin Kung Pao Chicken

After Driving All Day we arrived in Albuquerque, and decided to eat at the Pei Wei. Pei Wei is basically a quicker and cheaper version of PF Chang's. When we arrived the line side was backed up to the door. We waited and got fairly close to the front and they took a number to a table for us and told us what number it was. When we finally got to the front line, and to the counter we order the spicy Korean and the Kung pao both with chicken, and the ginger broccoli with beef.

Spicy Korean

I really liked the Kung pao chicken, it wasn't really hot but it tasted good. It also had carrots in it which were okay and Peapod's that I didn't really like. This was my dad's favorite. My mom and I both really enjoyed the spicy Korean with chicken. The sauce was spicy and I am not sure what some of the other flavors were, but I know I really liked it. It had mushrooms, onions, carrots and some kind of green beans, these were all good. I also really liked the sesame seeds on top. The ginger broccoli with beef was okay, but I thought the ginger flavor in it was a little too much for me.

Overall I really enjoyed this pay way. I thought the food was really good, and for three people to eat for under $30 is very good as well.
