Taco Tuesday: Pulled pork tacos

For Cinco de Mayo we celebrated with pulled pork tacos!  I bought Niman ranch pulled pork along with corn tortillas, fresh red salsa, pico de gallo and Cotija cheese all from whole foods.

Even though the pork wasn’t seasoned with Mexican spices or anything it still made excellent tacos.  The tacos with some pico de gallo and Cotija cheese were perfect!

Cajun Chef Green Tomato Pickles and Cajun Chef Mild Pickled Okra

Cajun Chef Green Tomato Pickles 16 oz  $4.11

I thought these awful.  They tasted really sweet, like sweet pickles which I dislike very much.  I won’t be buying any more of these.

Cajun Chef Mild Pickled Okra 12 oz          $3.08

These however I really liked, they were whole okra and were more like regular pickles and not so sweet.  I will definitely be buying more of these.

Tony Chachere's and Louisiana Fish Fry Dirty Rice Mix's

Dirty Rice

I didn’t exactly know what dirty rice was, but I ordered two boxes from two different brands.  Both boxes said to add ground beef.

Tony Chachere's Dirty Rice Mix 8 oz         $2.47

This was not super exciting or anything but was good.  It was just basically rice with seasonings and the ground beef.  This did make for an easy meal.

Louisiana Fish Fry Dirty Rice MIx 8 oz       $1.39

This one was also not super exciting but was good as well.  This was very similar to Tony Chachere's but was darker in color.

These were very similar so I would prefer the Louisiana brand better because of the cheaper price.

Taco Tuesday: Del Real Foods Taco Night Bundle

Del Real Foods Taco Night Bundle

On Cyber Monday I saw an ad on Facebook for Del Real Foods.  Their Cyber Monday special was free shipping.  I ordered the Taco Night Bundle for $55.94.  A few days later the bundle including a nice taco Tuesday bag arrived.

The Bundle included 4  15oz heat and serve packages of different meats and 2 Salsas

Chicken Breast in Enchilada Sauce

The chicken was shredded chicken in a basic mild red sauce this was good, but nothing great.

Carnitas

I really liked the carnitas.  it was basically pulled pork that was not overly seasoned but was simple and made really good tacos

Chicken Al Pastor

The recipe on back said to add canned diced pineapple.  This was really good and my favorite. The sauce/marinade was very good and a tad bit spicy but was great with the bit of sweet from the pineapple.  This Went well with pico de gallo and guacamole from whole foods.

Chile Verde

This was pork with chile verde sauce.  We thought it was good especially topped with Cotija cheese from Whole Foods.

SALSA DE MOLCAJETE ROJA

This salsa was so hot, one bite was enough to find that out.  We had to get the jar of pace salsa out.

SALSA DE MOLCAJETE VERDE

After trying the red salsa, we didn’t even bother trying this one.

I thought the Taco Night bundle from Del Real Foods was very good and a pretty good value.  I thought everything was either good or really good except for the salsa being too hot for me.  I am looking forward to having more of the Carnitas and Al Pastor and trying some of their other products!

Fresh Chile Sauce 3-Pack from The Fresh Chile Co

For Christmas eve we had a brunch with the rest of the family.  Since this included a chile relleno casserole and a bacon egg and potato casserole I thought red and green chile would be perfect with it.

I ordered the Fresh Chile Sauce 3-Pack from The Fresh Chile Co, which included jars of Fresh Red Chile, Fresh Green Chile, and Sun-Dried Chile on sale for $24.95.  I made sure to get the mild versions of each because they can get carried away with their heat in New Mexico.  I really liked both the red and the green, they were both tasty and both had a good amount of heat to them, but I’m glad I went with the mild.  The sun dried chile was alright as well but was sweeter and just not my favorite.  I enjoyed these sauces with both casseroles as well as chips and just eggs.  I thought the green went best with eggs, red with potatoes and both were good with chips.  This was all I had with the sauces but I’m sure they would be great on so many other things.

Having red chile and green chile was a perfect addition to our Christmas eve brunch   I can’t wait to order some more and try them in many more ways.

Eastern Standard Provisions Soft-baked Pretzels and Liège Belgian Waffles gift box

Late last year we received a Soft-baked Pretzels and Liège Belgian Waffles gift box from Eastern Standard Provisions.  This box contained 4 pretzels and 4 waffles along with salt, truffle salt, strawberry sugar, a jar of Maui onion mustard and a jar of fudge sauce.  We tried the Pretzels first and saved the waffles for later.

First, we brushed some of the Pretzels with olive oil and some with butter.  Then we made a variety of flavors and put them in the oven. Both the olive oil and butter ones were good, and I really didn’t have a preference.  The plain salt ones were good, so were the truffle ones but I don’t think the truffle helped all that much.   I wasn’t sure about the strawberry sugar, but I ended up liking it quite a bit especially with the chocolate sauce. I really enjoyed the pretzels with the mustard.  The mustard was excellent, It was basically a honey mustard with chunks of onion.  Pretzels may not be my favorite thing, but these were pretty good and had a good variety of flavors.

Later we tried the waffles.  We baked them in the oven according to directions.  The waffles were not all that big in size but were filling.  They were tasty but very very sweet, kind of too sweet in my opinion.

We tried them with the chocolate sauce even though it didn’t need any more sugar it, but it was pretty good.  If you like this type of super sweet waffle I would definitely recommend them.

Taco Tuesday: Omaha Steaks Skillet Meal: Pork Carnitas Kit

This kit was delicious, it had super tender pork that was very tasty.  The tortillas however were very tough and chewy.  The included tomatillo sauce was very good as well and went perfectly with the pork.  This kit was great except for the tortillas, and I wish there was more of the meat!  They said this kit generously serves 2-3, but it was more like barely serves 2 or 3.

I would and will order this again especially at the on-sale price of $14.99.
