South Mountain Café – Phoenix Arizona

March 12, 2017

We woke up on a Sunday morning and might've been a bit late for breakfast, but I read that South Mountain Café serves breakfast all day on Sunday. So when we arrived we went up to the counter where you order at.  I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a Coke dad ordered the American that came with eggs, potatoes, bacon and pancakes. And mom got the biscuits and gravy which came with eggs. And mom and dad both got coffee as well. When we were at the counter ordering the guy asked us where we found out about them and I said it was mostly from yelp reviews. He was also there working with his mom so it's definitely a family run business. Then we picked a table to sit at.  Soon after the same guy who took our orders brought our drinks out and brought our plates of foods not long after that.

My breakfast sandwich was okay it had a fried egg, bacon, cheese and tomatoes, it was nothing spectacular but just okay.  I did think the tomato helped it out and made it taste a little bit better which was kind of surprising to me.

Dad liked his breakfast but he wasn't so excited about the pancakes which he didn't like very much, but they did have a nice little flag American on it.

And  mom thought her biscuits and gravy was pretty good. I think South Mountain Café was an alright place where you can get a decent breakfast at not too high of a price and can help a local family-run business at the same time.

Chanpen Thai Cusine – Tempe Arizona

March 10, 2017

Last year we visited their original location and had a very good meal. This location was a bit more convenient this time. When we entered they pointed at one of the tables we could sit at.

Once we were seated they brought large ball jars full of water with lime. After a bit of time looking at the menu our waiter came, but I wasn’t quite ready to make a decision yet so he left. After I looked a little bit more and decided what I wanted a different waiter came to take our order I ordered the cashew chicken ($9.95). Dad the stir fried silver noodles with chicken ($9.95) and mom ordered the spicy sweet basil chicken ($9.95). All with 1 on the 1-5 heat scale.  Pretty soon after our food arrived.

I thought my cashew chicken was pretty good it had decent quality chicken and a good amount of vegetables and the sauce tasted very good as well.  This was very good but I should have ordered this with a larger amount of spice and I think it would have been even better.  I tried mom’s spicy sweet basil chicken and it tasted pretty good too. She enjoyed this

and I think dad thought his was all right.

Just about as we were finishing up they brought three little dishes with a little scoop of coconut ice cream which was pretty good and a nice touch to end the meal. Overall I thought Chanpen Thai was pretty good at this location, but I think I enjoyed their food more at their original location.

Joe’s farm Grill – Gilbert Arizona

March 10, 2017

Joe’s farm Grill was featured on Diners drive-ins and dives years ago and we did visit quite a few years ago in 2011. So I thought it was about time to return. When we arrived the line was basically coming out the door and the line area was very crowded. Once we finally got through the line we ordered at one of the windows. I decided to get the farm burger ($9.17 including choice of side) and picked cheddar for my cheese and I also got French fries and a drink (to go along with this. My parents both got a burger as well and my mom also tried out the Asian slaw. Once we ordered we took our cups and found a table inside the building, but there was also plenty of outdoor seating as well. And once we filled our drinks and waited for a bit they called our number.  Mom went to get the food and brought it back to our table.

I thought this was a very good quality burger and the veggies on top; lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion were all pretty good and pretty fresh. I didn’t really like the pickles a ton because they were a little bit too sweet for me. My fries were pretty good hot, crispy and salty. Once we were done one of the employees that was cleaning some of the tables took our tray away and we were ready to go.
I enjoyed Joe’s Farm grill very much and would be very happy to return.
