Bacon part 2

For a while now I've heard a lot about Nueske's bacon so I decided to order a sampler of some of their bacon. The sampler I ordered contained 1 pound of Applewood smoked bacon, 1 pound of peppered bacon and a 12 ounce package of Cherrywood smoked bacon all for around $30 which included shipping.

 

Then I waited patiently for a few days and then one morning the doorbell rang and it was like Christmas morning. So I opened up the box and there were the three packs of bacon along with dry ice. My bacon had arrived and I couldn’t wait to cook and eat it.

 

 

 

First we tried the Applewood smoked bacon. We cooked half of it in a baking pan in the oven and the other half in a frying pan. The baked version needed more time in the oven then the package said, so we put it back in for a while. It still was very tasty but the fried version was better. This bacon had a strong smoke smell when we opened the package and smoked flavor that you couldn't miss.  I'm not sure if I could really tell that it was Applewood smoked, as opposed to another kind of wood.  There also didn't seem to be quite as much fat as typical bacon has and didn't shrink quite as much. This was great bacon and we made this with eggs that were cooked in the bacon grease which was delicious.

Next we tried the peppered bacon which we cooked all of it in the frying pan. It was pretty much like the Applewood, but was peppered around the edges so it made it that much better.  This was my favorite of the three packages. We had this with mac & cheese.

 

Then finally we tried the Cherrywood smoked bacon which was clearly smoked as well, but I don't know if I could tell much of a difference between that and the Applewood bacon. Of the three this was my least favorite for one simple reason it only had 12 ounces instead of a full pound. We had this with a different kind of mac & cheese.

I thought all of the Nueske's bacon I had was excellent and tasted great. I did like the peppered bacon a bit more, but they were all excellent.  I'm sure glad I ordered the sampler pack and tried out Nueske's bacon because it was well worth it.
