2021 Food Olympics

Welcome to my 2021 Food Olympics!

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been collecting and eating international foods from Omaha Steaks, World Market, Whole Foods, Safeway, King Soopers, Amazon and Walmart. We’ve also been getting takeout from local restaurants and making some foods at home. There are more than 30 different countries represented! I’ll be posting about different categories Including cookies, snacks, sodas, appetizers, entrees and cheeses and awarding gold, silver and bronze medals for each category.

For my first post in honor of the actual Olympics being in Tokyo I ordered a Japanese snack box from Amazon.

This “box” was actually a small bag and not exactly an overflowing box like the picture showed.  We took a couple of days testing all these and thankfully the packages were small.  The bag contained 30 different snacks including cookies, candies and crackers.  Most of these were not very good. but a few of them were alright including.

·        Bag of mini crunchy noodles that were similar to what you get with soup at a Chinese restaurant.

·        Marshmallow with chocolate filling inside with Donald Duck on the package.

·        Foil bubble pack with 7 small round candies. Red, yellow, green, and purple with chocolate inside. These were like tiny M&M’s with no letters on them.

·        Ichigo  “Strawberry” Cream sandwich cookie, they were basically sweet crackers with strawberry filling.

But most of these I didn’t think were[ very good and a lot of them had a bad after taste including

·        A bag that Looked like soup crackers that were chalky and dry.

·        A yellow and green wrapper with a picture of bananas that tasted like a rubbery banana.

·        Puff fried rings were corn snacks that were curry flavored and was the worst item in the box.

·        Rectangle shaped cookie/cracker that was green on top and brown underneath.  It was sweet on top and bottom tasted burnt.

·        Corn Potage was a sweet and crunchy puff tube and kind of tasted like creamed corn.

·        A small candy that looked like a tootsie roll that didn’t taste good.

After testing all these snacks, I realized I’m not too fond of Japanese snacks,  but I still had fun trying something different.
