Aloha kitchen - Mesa Arizona

March 16, 2018

I have never really had Hawaiian food before and was interested in trying it out.  I’ve had Korean Bulgogi before but wasn’t sure how it compared to the Hawaiian version.

I decided to get Mix Plate #2 which came with Bulgogi and Chicken Katsu.  This plate came with two scoops of white rice, macaroni salad and also barbecue sauce for the Katsu chicken. I thought the Bulgogi tasted all right but it didn’t seem like it was very seasoned or marinated just basically grilled meat. It was also very tough and hard to chew. The Chicken Katsu was cut into strips and easy to eat. The outside breading was nice and crispy and the barbecue sauce with it was good but it just tasted like regular barbecue sauce not anything very different. The rice was plain but okay, the macaroni salad was all right. It also had potatoes in it which I don’t know if that’s normal or not, but I thought it was the best part of it. Also on the plate was a little piece of pineapple.  This was good but I wish there would’ve been more of it. They also had fortune cookies. I don’t know if that’s normal either.  The food here didn’t excite me too much and I don’t really want to return.

Mark's Cafe - Tempe Arizona

March 16, 2018

This is a small family run restaurant. When we arrived for probably a slightly late launch, the place was fairly full and they had to clean off a table for us.   After a short wait we were seated and our extra friendly waitress came shortly after.  I ordered the turkey Reuben, dad got the eggs and sausage breakfast, and Mom got the eggs and bacon breakfast.

I’d never had a turkey Reuben before so I figured I’d try it. I thought it was pretty good and I think I might’ve liked it a little better than a regular Reuben with corn beef. The fries were ok but not really too good.

Mom and dad both had a good basic breakfast.

Wok Wei - Goodyear Arizona

March 14, 2018

We were planning on eating elsewhere, but the other place was rather crowded looking so we came here instead which wasn’t very busy. We were greeted and seated right away and drink orders were taken soon after and then our dinner orders not long after that. I ordered the Kung pao chicken for 8.75. Mom ordered the orange chicken combo for 10.25 that came with fried rice, an egg roll, cheese puffs, lo mein and soup. Dad ordered the mongolian beef for 9.25.  These were all served individually on each plate and not family style.

I liked my Kung pao chicken quite a bit. The chicken with some veggies and peanuts was all combined with a tasty sauce. But I think it was the worst of the three entrées.

Dad really enjoyed his Mongolian beef and what I tried of it was absolutely delicious.

But I think the orange chicken was even better! This was nice and crispy and had a bit of a sweet and a bit of spicy to it.

Mom really enjoyed her meal combo but it was too much food for her to eat. I happily ate a few more pieces of her orange chicken although I couldn’t eat all my meal either. Once we were done eating what we could we finished up with our fortune cookies.

Although we weren’t planning on eating here we were very happy that we did and we had an excellent meal.
